History of Budget
Budget Rent a Car was founded in 1958 by Morris Mirkin in Los Angeles, and today it is one of the world's leading car rental companies. The name was chosen with the goal of offering low prices and serving as a solution for customers concerned about high rates.
In 1959, Jules Lederer, an investor and partner, joined the company, and with his help, the business continued to grow. The following year, in 1960, Budget was established as a company in Chicago, expanding its presence both nationally and internationally.
Over the following decades, Budget Rent a Car continued to expand and strengthen its presence in the global market. In 1986, the company was acquired by the conglomerate Gibbons, Green and van Amerongen Ltd, which enabled it to continue growing and modernizing its fleet of vehicles. In 1997, Budget was purchased by Team Rental Group, which later changed its name to Budget Group, Inc.
In 2002, Cendant Corporation acquired Budget Rent a Car and integrated it into Avis Budget Group. This partnership allowed Budget to benefit from the expertise and resources of one of the most respected brands in the car rental industry and expand its operations worldwide. Today, Budget continues to offer competitive rates and high-quality customer service, with a presence in thousands of locations across more than 120 countries.
