History of National Car Rental
National Car Rental was founded in 1947 as a consolidation of independent car rental companies when 24 operators came together to create a larger brand. The company established its headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, starting with a fleet of approximately 800 vehicles across 60 cities in the United States.
National quickly became known for its innovative approach. In 1954, it became the first car rental company to allow customers to pick up a vehicle in one location and return it to another. Then, in 1966, it pioneered the use of computerized booking systems, revolutionizing the car rental industry.
In 2007, National joined Enterprise Holdings, becoming part of a major rental network that also includes Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Alamo Rent A Car.
Today, National Car Rental operates in approximately 90 countries, with more than 1,500 locations and a fleet offering over 30 types of vehicles worldwide.
