History of National Car Rental
National Car Rental was founded in 1947 as a consolidation of independent car rental companies when 24 operators came together to create a larger brand. The company established its headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, starting with a fleet of approximately 800 vehicles across 60 cities in the United States.
National quickly became known for its innovative approach. In 1954 , it became the first car rental company to allow customers to pick up a vehicle in one location and return it to another. Then, in 1966 , it pioneered the use of computerized booking systems, revolutionizing the car rental industry.
In 2007 , National joined Enterprise Holdings , becoming part of a major rental network that also includes Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Alamo Rent A Car.
Today, National Car Rental operates in approximately 90 countries, with more than 1,500 locations and a fleet offering over 30 types of vehicles worldwide.
